An unusual Welsh ‘Coffor-Bach’. It’s a very small example, which is made from oak with sycamore and pine for the drawer linings and backboards. The two drawers are without handles – this is not uncommon on some furniture from Cardiganshire. It has traditional Welsh slot hinges. What is particularly unusual are the two brackets which are fitted to the underside of the lid – they seem to have been to hold a spindle. Maybe for holding wool or thread? whatever it was – it passed through a small hole in the lid.
