Welsh oak chest / Cist dderw Gymreig

A substantial and rare early Welsh oak chest. The chest is made from wonderfully figured dense Welsh oak and has carved, punched and channel moulded decoration and with excellent colour.
The boarded chest sits inside the four partially hollowed out legs; a type of construction associated with the Black mountain area of Breconshire and Radnorshire in mid Wales.
